Governments

You have emerged as a great ruler of your people. If you so choose, you can take your civilization’s government to the next level by installing a new form of government. While your people will never force you into establishing an official government, you may find it advantageous to establish one. There are four modern governments you can research and create; Democracy, Monarchy, Socialism, and Theocracy.

Democracy: Under Democratic control you will gain advantages in your Marketplaces and technological advancements. On the flip side, it will be more expensive to create War Factories and Battle Labs. Democratically run armies expect to be well fed, increasing your troop food costs.

Monarchy: If you choose to rule as a monarch your cities will gain advantages in the form of cheaper Barracks, Fortifications, and Missile Defense Systems. You will not always know who to trust as a Monarch making it more difficult to raise a proper Intelligence Agency. Raising and controlling troops under your iron fist offers a modest decrease in the amount of food your troops consume compared to other governments.

Socialism: If you create a socialistic society your Construction Yard and War Factory will reap the benefits. Unfortunately, your Marketplace and Embassy will no longer be as effective. The greatest benefit of Socialism is that your troops will fight even on an empty stomach. You will see your troop food costs significantly reduced when you create a government based on the ancient writings of Socialism.

Theocracy: When you declare Theocratic rule your Worship Center’s effectiveness receives significant bonuses. Unfortunately, a Theocracy does not lend itself to technological breakthroughs. Thus, your Tech Center and Military Academy will become more expensive. In a Theocracy you must keep your troops well fed, thus increasing your troop food costs.

In order to change the way you rule, you must first research the government you would like to form. Once you have researched the technology needed, simply navigate to your City Center. Here you have the option to click the “Government” link. You should now see this screen:

Changing governments requires enough energy to successfully complete the revolt. Here, in this example 11,300 units of energy are required to change governments. Once you have the needed energy, select the government you wish to change to and push revolt. Be cautious in your changes, as the more often you change governments the more energy it takes to create a revolt.
